Chambray Shirt Styled 6 Ways

Hey hey hey, happy Monday Lei Loves! I hope that it has been a productive one- I know mine was 🙂 I am experimenting with creating different kinds of content, and thought that rather than highlighting new items that are hitting the shelves (…because Lord knows I am on a budget these days, and I know I’m not the only one!), I thought I could show you how to style a classic piece in a few different ways to get the most bang for your buck. For fall, one of my favorite closet staples is chambray- especially a chambray button-down. It’s timeless, the perfect transitional piece between seasons, and probably one of the most versatile items you’ll ever own. For those of you who may not be familiar with the word ‘chambray’, it’s basically, a lightweight denim. It is wonderful for layering because it’s less bulky than it’s traditional denim counterpart (but yet still durable) and has a much softer feel.

1. ‘Denim’ on Denim

-Get the Look

Despite popular belief, you actually can wear ‘denim’ (or chambray) on denim. The key is making sure that the pieces contrast each other; in this case, a lighter top and darker, distressed bottom. It also helps to break up the outfit by accessorizing- for example, adding a belt. I love the simplicity of this look, yet also how chic and sophisticated it is. Perfect look for work or play.

2. Add a Printed Cardigan

-Get the Look-

Since chambray is essentially neutral, it’s always a nice option to spice it up with a fun print. If you can’t bring yourself to try denim on denim, pair your button up with black or white jeans for a classic look that is easy to style and accessorize.

3. ‘Dress’ it up

-Get the Look

This might just be my favorite look of all. I love experimenting with pattern mixing and this combines flannel, stripes, and chambray so it really doesn’t get much better in my book. You can wear this with knee-high boots and socks when the temperatures start to cool down more, and could even layer on an additional cardigan.

4. Casual Stripes

-Get the Look-

For a cool, put together ensemble open up your button-up and use it as a layering piece over classic stripes. (Just a note, if you end up purchasing this shirt from the link above, you may want to size up for a slouchier fit).

5. All Tied Up

-Get the Look-

Believe it or not, I’m actually wearing a dress in these photos! I layered the shirt over my dress and buttoned it about 3/4 of the way down. I then tied the excess and adjusted it to where I wanted (specifically right below my bust line). I tucked it in and added a belt to hide the tie and accentuate my waist. I also get tons of compliments on my lipstick whenever I wear this red, so I’ve linked my exact lip color in the shoppable products above!

6. Accessories are Necessities

-Get the Look-

Clearly, I’m a little obsessed with the chambray/leopard print combo! This scarf sold out so fast and it’s easy to see why. It’s so lightweight but cozy and has a unique bold leopard print pattern which I love. Adding fun accessories to an outfit comprised of neutral pieces is another way to elevate your look and wardrobe.

I had so much fun with this post! It really challenged me to think outside the box and I loved every minute of it. I hope you enjoyed reading it and got some ideas on how to get creative with staple items in your own closet. Thank you so much for reading and for your continued support of Lei Love Creative.
