A Tropical Skirt for Summer

If you’ve been following along for a while, you’ll know that I am proudly petite 🙂 Standing just under 5’2, and weighing in at (….wait, a woman never reveals her weight!) I often struggle to find pieces that flatter my small figure. A while ago, in my search to find some petite-friendly pieces, I came across Chicwish. While they don’t market specifically to a petite audience, the sizing runs a bit smaller and therefore provides a great option for us petite ladies. They have a wide variety of clothing for all different sizes, and overall everything is offered at a very affordable price point. I was thrilled when they reached out about helping to promote their summer line and got even more excited when I saw this colorful, tropical skirt; perfect for summer and right up my alley!

Chicwish includes a handy size chart alongside each item on their website. This is so helpful in making selections if you are between sizes especially since sizes fluctuate depending on the piece of clothing. I love everything about this skirt: it’s bold, it’s bright, it even has has birds of paradise on it for goodness sake…basically, perfection in my book. I will say that this midi length can be tricky for petites, because it’s a lot of material on a (typically) shorter stature. But something that helps tremendously is wearing the proper heels. (Notice how I said heels….not flats!) Choose something with a thin strap, or a pair of nude pumps to elongate the legs. I opted for a pop of color to accentuate the pinks in the skirt and because….. well, look how cute they are!

Also, here’s a little tip. If I’m going to wear a full skirt like this, I prefer it to be really full. I keep a neutral color tulle skirt (like this one) in my closet to wear underneath these types of skirts to create that extra volume and drive home that fit ‘n flare look. Adding this extra little layer helps to keep my proportions aligned by preventing my waist from getting lost in the busy pattern or length of the skirt. Additionally, a good rule of thumb when you’re working with a busier pattern, is to concentrate a pop of color in one area to help streamline your look. For example, I opted for bolder shoes, thus choosing a more neutral top and bag.

There are so many great options available at Chicwish! Take a look at their new arrivals here and be sure to check back for my detailed reviews of more items in their summer line.
